figure out what the problem was. After having spent way too much of my
own time thinking that the problem was with my pedals, finally
realizing it was my bottom bracket, I held off taking it in for as
long as I could.
James at Brickwell's did a great job opening up my BB, inspecting it
with a bright flashlight, cleaning it out, greasing the threads and
tightening up the whole assembly. The threads, turns out, had not been
greased prior to final assembly. Before James closed it he actually
wiped down my rear triangle, to check for cracks in the frame. While
he was at it he also cleaned and lubed my chain and adjusted my rear
shifting, which is great because I had just replaced my shifter cables
and housings and I had some trouble adjusting it properly.
After all this, the bike still creacked under power, so he asked Keith
for his opinion. Turns out, the headset was noisy too. So James opened
up my front end, inspected, cleaned, greased and tightened that too.
Now my Roubaix is quiet again. Yay. Get ready for a shot of orange.
Sometimes you just have to leave it to those who do it for a living.
